With all the news about new tablets running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, tablets running Windows got lost in the shadows. But out of all the Windows tablets introduced at CES, the most intriguing, and unique was the Samsung Sliding PC 7. The Samsung Sliding PC 7 will have a 10 inch capacitive multi-touch touchscreen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, with a built in keyboard, which slides out from under the screen and transforms the tablet into a "LapTab." Not only is the design well thought out, but the hardware inside is not too shabby either. The Samsung Sliding PC 7 is equipped with a brand new Intel Oak Trail CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz, 2 GB of memory, and 128 GB of flash storage.

Designed for users who would like portability the tablet weighs in at 2.2 pounds, has touch capabilities, and a physical QWERTY keyboard. Another important aspect of the tablet is that is runs Windows 7OS. This means that all applications and programs the can be run on regular PCs can be run on the Samsung tablet. That includes the all-important, MS Word, MS, Excel, and MS Outlook.

You might be wondering then what is so special. Well it is not revolutionary; there are many tablets that run on Windows, but none that use this form factor. The slide out keyboard is truly unique. The Samsung Sliding PC also comes with the usual peripherals: HDMI port which with an adapter turns into a USB port, audio jack, and 4 in 1 memory card reader. It also has Bluetooth, 3G and WiMax connectivity. The battery is standard as usual with maximum 9 hours of usage on a single charge, but like in apple products, is not removable. The tablet does come with both a front and back facing cameras, which presumably will allow for video chat through Skype.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 hasn't arrived quite yet, and tech sources predict a May arrival with an expected price tag of 0. Images given to the public so far are only a mock-up, and do not yet represent the real thing. It certainly seems to be a more niche focused product. As a device though, it's pretty sound and for professionals it is a step forward in the right direction.
